Hey, I’m Arionne — a journalist, a college professor, basically a lot of things. But the one thing I LOVE to brag about is being an HBCU grad.

HBCUs, all over the country, are the places where real magic happens.

Like where I went to school. On the HIGHEST of seven hills in Tallahassee, Florida, THE Florida A&M University, better known as FAMU.

And then, drive some hours north to Huntsville and there’s ALABAMA A&M, where my friend Frankie went.

[Frankie’s tape]

Nearby, there are the HBCUs in the AUC, Atlanta University Center, Clark, Morehouse, and Spelman, where my cousin Brandis went.

[Brandis]

Head west a bit and there’s Tennessee State in Nashville. That’s where my homegirl Koereyelle went.

[Koereyelle]

Over west in Oklahoma, there’s Langston. My cousin Quentin went there.

[Quentin]

And of course, all the way up in D.C., we have Howard. My boo Michele went to H-U.

[Michele]

And at these illustrious places, we found ourselves — and we found Black excellence. We were nurtured while also being challenged. They are where we grew up. They are home.

But even if you didn’t go to an HBCU, they are so deeply rooted in our history AND in our communities today, their stories are ALL of our stories. And I am OH so very happy to talk all about it. To BOAST about it. To share in that pride.

And like we say at FAMU: We "Bragg" Different!

This is Bragging Rights.

A podcast about the stories — and people — who made our HBCUs.
